Watercoloring Inspiration!

Watercoloring Inspiration!

This Pinterest inspired card brings on thoughts of Spring and the warmer weather!  While the early flowers are starting to POP and the birds are chirping, getting outside is on my mind.  The blue color palette is totally a Spring Thing!

I love the watercolored look, however, I always look at watercoloring with mixed emotions.  You never really will have the same look twice, even when you really try.

I pulled out my Watercolor Paper, Aqua Painters and Lost Lagoon, Pool Party and Island Indigo and just started playing.  Here’s the thing!  That’s all you just have to do.

Watercolor BlueChristine’s Tips:

The BIGGEST tip I can give you!   Make sure your paper has water on it.  On this card, I did not go to the edges of the paper with the water.  Even with the Aqua Painter, have a little cup of water handy.  With the tray of your Ink Pad, mix water and a drop or two of your color.  Here I started with Lost Lagoon and only added one drop to the tray.  Beginning at the top, I only touched the Aqua Painter to the paper, letting the ink just roll through the paper.  I then added a little more water to lighten the color.  Tip:  Keep a light hand on the darker inks.  Remember, you can always add water to lighten it.

More BANG for your buck!  An Aqua Painter, Watercolor Paper and Ink are probably three items you didn’t know you needed.  Watercoloring is BIG right now!  Give it a try!

Helping Me Grow |Whitewash Technique | Stampin’ Up!

Helping Me Grow |Whitewash Technique | Stampin’ Up!

WOW!  Spring is coming!  Spring IS coming!  This week we are looking at temps to be in the upper 60’s here in Connecticut!

So naturally, my thoughts turn to the spring flowers that will be popping out of hibernation soon!  One of the first here, right after crocuses will be the hyacinth.

HyacinthsThe Whitewash Technique is easy and makes for a stunning card presentation, especially when paired with the color palette of Crumb Cake and Basic Black.

How I Did It!!

    1. Ink up your image with Whisper White Craft Ink or Versamark.  Stamp image and then sprinkle Stampin’ Up’s! White Embossing Powder over the image and heat set.
    2. With your blender pen, pick up a little White Craft Ink and color inside the flower gently, making sure not to add too much color.
    3. Stamp your sentiment and corners in black.
    4. I stamped a small butterfly from Papillon Potpourri in black onto the Crumb Cake, and then again on a separate sheet of Crumb Cake cardstock.
    5. I hand colored the butterfly with the blender pen and then punched it out. I adhered it over the top of the one on the cardstock to create a shadow beneath it.
    6. Two pearls complete the card.  Put all layers together.

Flowering Fields – Stampin’ Up!

Flowering Fields – Stampin’ Up!

I’ll bet you’re thinking to yourself, “Not another flower stamp set?!”  In my humble opinion, you simply cannot own enough flower stamp sets. Each delicate image is perfect for using your markers, blender pens or Aqua Painters.

Looky here!  I stamped the Hardwood background stamp horizontally in Smoky Slate.  I really didn’t want to overwhelm the background with a darker ink.

I grabbed one of the stamps from the Watercolor Wishes Kit!  My goodness!  That kit is wonderful!  It has so many choices of sentiments.  Oops! I digressed.  Sorry!  I couldn’t resist the opportunity to tell you that!

Flowering FieldsAfter stamping the leaf images in Old Olive, I went ahead and inked up the flower images with my Elegant Eggplant marker.  I stamped the butterfly and the sentiment in Elegant Eggplant as well and mounted the whole thing onto Crumb Cake cardstock.

Of course, I added a few rhinestones for bling.

Below are a few note cards made with the Flowering Fields Stamp Set and the Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper.

Christine’s Tips:

  • Cut the Designer Series to the front of your note cards.  These happen to be 3 1/2″ x 5″!  I love the fact that they come all pre packaged for quick notes.   Open up your card and trim any excess that hangs off.
  • You will notice that there is ribbon or twine.  Be sure to add it that element before you adhere the Designer Series Paper to the base.
  • Adding some coordinating paper as an envelope liner will instantly make a gorgeous presentation.  Remember, you will need the Big Shot to use the envelope framelits.
  • Using a blender pen is the quickest way to add color to the inside of each flower.
  • The stamp set used for the sentiments is Crazy About You!

Bloomin’ Heart! | What I Love | Sale A Bration

Bloomin’ Heart!

Just because Valentine’s Day is over, doesn’t mean you need to put away all the heart stamps.  Or for that matter, heart thinlits, punches…etc!

Pink Heart

Don’t let this stunner of a thinlit die scare you away.  I have the perfect tool to get ALL those little pieces out of the heart.  The NEW Big Shot brush has answered my prayers AND it is so easy to use as well.

Check out the home office’s video on using this nifty tool!

The BIG SHOT BRUSH

Christine’s Tips:

  • Be sure to sponge the edges of the filigree heart.  You want to be sure that the die cut POPS when you adhere it to your cardstock.
  • I used Stampin’ Up’s! Fine Tip Glue Pen.  This is wonderful for adhering delicate cutouts, glitter or sequins.
  • One of my favorite NEW products is the banner thinlit found in the Large Numbers Framelits.  Yes, I find that quite versatile.  The bundle might be a little pricey, but it is well worth it considering the numbers that can be used on your cards, scrapbook pages and papercrafted projects.  Just sayin…

I simply cannot get enough of that simple saying on the What I Love stamp set that is FREE during Sale A Bration.  That one sentiment has really made me happy this year.  Remember,  purchase just $50 in my ONLINE STORE and that set is FREE!

What I love named

And finally one more thing…I stamped the inside with “you.” and also with the Hardwood Background stamp.  To get a very light image, I stamped off on a separate sheet of paper.

Botanical Blooms Birthday Card!

Botanical Blooms Birthday Card

Yesterday was a great day to catch up on some much needed rest.  There is no better way to rest than to hang out in your studio (craft) room and papercraft away.

Just recently I was inspired by a Stampin’ Up! home office training person, named Shannon West, to bring birthdays back with a hashtag #imbringingbirthdaysback.  I guess it is always fun to go to your mailbox and find something other than bills and advertising.  Many people just email or use Facebook to post their birthday wishes.  Not too personal, but it would definitely make their day if you popped a handmade birthday card in the mail.

Botanical Blooms

I added some Botanical Gardens Designer Series Paper and a few die cut embellishments in coordinating colors to the front.  I pulled out my Rose Wonder Stamp Set since I love the birthday sentiment so much.

Christine’s Tips:

  • I pulled out my Mossy Meadow marker and Archival Basic Black ink.  I stamped first in the black and with a sponge, I pulled the ink off the HAPPY and reinked with the Mossy Meadow marker.
  • Sometimes you just have to use two sets together.  The Rose Wonder stamp set has this nifty label outline  that coordinates with the framelit in the Rose Garden Thinlit Bundle.
  • Use the colors from your Designer Series Papers to coordinate the colors of the flower embellishments.
  • Better yet, use the coordinating Botanical Blooms Stamp Set and make your own printed paper.

PicMonkey Collage

These colors go great together!  One of my favorite color combinations.  What is your favorite color combination? Because of the sheer number of robo hits on my blog, I need to approve your comments.  Go ahead and add them and I will put them through.

What I Love Crumb Cake-Stampin’ Up!

What I Love In Crumb Cake-Stampin’ Up!

Below is one of the cards that I completed.  Neutrals seem to be a go-to combination.

Kraft What I Love

I stamped in White Craft Ink and then added White Embossing Powder to heat set.  With a simple sponge dauber, I inked up in Crumb Cake and filled the centers of each flower.  Be sure to take a paper towel and wipe off the embossed image.  It will definitely make your image POP!

Kraft FlatInside was simply stamped with “you.”  on a layer of white cardstock.  I am totally loving that leaf image when stamped underneath the word.  Add a coordinating Crumb Cake envelope and you have the perfect card to send to someone special.  One more thing to note,  this easy peasy technique works better with light colors.

Just For You-Botanicals For You

Botanicals For You-Just For You-Stampin’ Up!

BIG, BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL!  That describes this card perfectly.  Handwritten bold fonts are super trendy at this time and these colors scream Spring to me.

Sometimes the best cards are the ones you get inspiration from in the catalogs!  Isn’t that why we have them?  One thing I love about this card is the bright and colorful inks that were used.

Just For YouChristine’s Tips:

  • Don’t be afraid of color.  Using the Archival Black Ink with these beautiful colors really makes them POP!  I used Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo and Mint Macaron.  I got the color combination from the It’s My Party Enamel Dots in the Occasions Catalog.  You will want a package of those, I guarantee it!!!
