Gender Neutral Happy Birthday Card

Gender Neutral Happy Birthday Card

I have enjoyed the Urban Underground Designer Series Paper so much that I was on a roll last week just before my port install on Friday in preparation for my first chemo treatment.

It bears repeating that I am not completely blown away by the Occasions Catalog and it has taken me a little bit to warm up to it!  But what I do notice is that there seems to be just about something for EVERYONE in the NEW catalog!

I love to create cards that are simple and easy because, like YOU, I am always on the go!  While I have a studio full of Stampin’ Up! supplies, many of you do not have the luxury of space.  Therefore, you are probably working out of a storage bin.  Am I correct?  Using what you have on hand is easy.  Grab your Designer Series Paper, coordinating cardstock and  a large font style stamp.

Over the next few posts, you will find me using this wonderful and trendy paper and the stamp set, Big On Birthdays to create an assortment of masculine, feminine and gender neutral cards which will be perfect for the time strapped individual.

Cancer Update & A Great Masculine Birthday Card Idea!

Cancer Update and A Great Masculine Birthday Card Idea!

Let me say that I am not sure where to begin!  There has been so much happening in such a short amount of time!  I have been to two post op visits with my breast surgeon and plastic surgeon.  These two are an amazing duo.  I like to refer to them as the Dream Team of Yale!

My breast surgeon had to give me the news that I have a different type of cancer than what they originally took out.  This particular kind did not show up on the biopsy that I had.  The good news is that my lymph nodes are clear!  Whoooo Hooooo!  Stage 1 cancer.  However, I will still need chemo treatments. Sigh!

My plastic surgeon took out the drain tube a week and a half ago.  She said the post surgery scars look great.  I asked her when I could go back to exercising…her exact words, “No bouncy, bouncy stuff…” I guess I can’t run yet or do high intensity exercise!  Insert sad face!

Next stop was the Onocologist!  He won Ed and I over with his kind and caring ways.  He sat with us for an hour and a half, telling us what treatment, drugs and side effects to expect during the upcoming treatments.

I guess one would think that the most important thought on chemo is hair loss!  Not for me, it would be the nausea and vomiting that are associated with treatment.  So that leads me to another appointment, wig and head covering shopping.  The idea is to go before you actually start to lose your hair.  Hmmmm!  This should be interesting since I have never colored my hair.  I am a natural red head and my hair has gone blonde/strawberry with age.  That is what redheads do when they gray.  Not so bad, eh?!  I do know that if and when my hair starts falling out, out will come the clippers and my husband has volunteered to do the deed!  I will save those pictures for another day!

This week also marks my port install…stay tuned for more!

Your cards, letters, phone calls, texts, gifts have all meant more to me than anything else in the world.  It is comforting to know that so many people care about you and the struggle that one goes through.

One of the things that has kept me going over the last 3 or so weeks in addition to all of the above,  has been creating.  Now that I can use my arm sufficiently, but not yet walk the dog, is to make cards.  I would love to get back into having classes and clubs, I am just not ready.  I love to have people here in my studio. I am a people person and love it when there are stampers here.

I have to admit that I wasn’t feeling the love with this Occasions Catalog.  I am not sure whether it was the drugs talking or my lack of desire to stamp.  But when inspiration hits, you just got to go with it.   I have found a new favorite printed paper from the Occasions Catalog.  It is Urban Underground and it is absolutely a great source of masculine patterns, and textures all wrapped into one.

The color combination for this suite of products is, you guessed it, Basic Black, Basic Gray, Very Vanilla and Delightful Dijon.  I know that the Envelope Framelit is retired, but I just couldn’t help to take it out and add a piece of Designer Series Paper to the envelope.

And that stamp set, Big On Birthdays, has a little bit of masculine, feminine and gender neutral appeal to it as well.

Sheltering Tree

Sheltering Tree

apple-birthdayThis all purpose set can be changed for each seasons, just by either by stamping or using seasonal Designer Series Paper.   Let us talk about the Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper.  It can take you into Fall even though it has a summer feel to it.   The Happy Birthday is from the Fresh Fruit Stamp Set in Soft Suede.

Christine’s Tips:

  • Since Sheltering Tree is a Photopolymer Stamp Set, be sure to use the Piercing Mat underneath while stamping to get a crisp and clean image.
  • Keeping to Fall theme, I used only Soft Suede and Pear Pizzazz Ink, taking my cue from the colors in the Designer Series Paper.
  • I cut the Whisper White layer at 2.75″ x 3.75″ and layered that onto a piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock measuring 3″ x 4″.
  • As always, when I have horizontally designed cards, I cut my cardstock lengthwise on the 8.5″ side for a side folding card.

Thoughtful Banners

Thoughtful Banners

Hi Papercrafters!  It has been a nice break to not blog!  Now that summer is here, I can channel my efforts into posting more often.

Creating is more in line with what I love to do.  While I don’t really mind the administrative end of this business, my Etsy Shop takes up alot of my time and so do my honeybees, garden…you get the idea.

Stampin’ Up! came out with a NEW stamp set called Thoughtful Banners.

Thoughtful

I used the NEW 2016-2017 In Colors to create this fabulous little sentiment on the front of the card.  While I did not use the coordinating punches below, this set is bundled for 10% discount as shown below.  The stamp set also coordinates with the Classic Label further down the page.

To add and interesting border, I grabbed the doodle stamp from Tin Of Cards and used that around the edges in the Archival Black.

I am loving the NEW In Colors, they are so fresh and fun.  I know you will like them as well.

Helping Me Grow |Whitewash Technique | Stampin’ Up!

Helping Me Grow |Whitewash Technique | Stampin’ Up!

WOW!  Spring is coming!  Spring IS coming!  This week we are looking at temps to be in the upper 60’s here in Connecticut!

So naturally, my thoughts turn to the spring flowers that will be popping out of hibernation soon!  One of the first here, right after crocuses will be the hyacinth.

HyacinthsThe Whitewash Technique is easy and makes for a stunning card presentation, especially when paired with the color palette of Crumb Cake and Basic Black.

How I Did It!!

    1. Ink up your image with Whisper White Craft Ink or Versamark.  Stamp image and then sprinkle Stampin’ Up’s! White Embossing Powder over the image and heat set.
    2. With your blender pen, pick up a little White Craft Ink and color inside the flower gently, making sure not to add too much color.
    3. Stamp your sentiment and corners in black.
    4. I stamped a small butterfly from Papillon Potpourri in black onto the Crumb Cake, and then again on a separate sheet of Crumb Cake cardstock.
    5. I hand colored the butterfly with the blender pen and then punched it out. I adhered it over the top of the one on the cardstock to create a shadow beneath it.
    6. Two pearls complete the card.  Put all layers together.

Thank You | Quick and Easy Notecards!

Thank You | Quick and Easy Notecards!

Psst! Do you want to know the easiest way to make a card? Start with Note Cards & Envelopes. They’re ready for you to make and send a card. Each card has thicker card stock for layering and embellishing.

Quick and easy is my motto!  When you have to send thank you notes, why not send a handstamped one.  One that is quick and easy to do.  Note cards are prepackaged for you, making this project truly 5 minutes or less.

Crumb Note CardsGrab a package of precut and prescored notecards available in either Whisper White or Crumb Cake (shown).  Using Archival Basic Black ink, stamp your flowers and sentiment quickly and easily on the front.  Fold, add your message and send to your recipient.  Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy!

We don’t always have alot of time to sit down and spend an hour on making a card. There are times when you have to send out a few thank you notes to friends and family.  Now is the time to think quick and easy.  Handstamping your own cards makes your recipient feel special.

Stampin’ Up! | Grateful Bunch | Best Wishes Card

Stampin’ Up! | Grateful Bunch | Best Wishes Card

Don’t you just love it when Stampin’ Up! pairs a stamp set with a punch, framelit or die?!  Ugh!  I really don’t like cutting out images if I don’t have to, so it makes my heart happy to have those little extra tools handy.  This wonderful little set is bundled together for a 15% discount.

Oh Darn!  I forgot to add the Petite Pairs to the Stampin’ Supplies list!  No worries!  Lots of great sentiments to use for just about every occasion.

Notice the little butterfly next to Best Wishes?!  I thought the card needed a little something and when I was going through my stash of stamps, believe it or not, that little image just jumped out at me.  That image is part of Flowering Fields which is a Sale A Bration Set!  There are some adorable images from that set.  I can’t wait to break out the rest of the flowers and play!

Grateful Bunch-Stampin’ Up!

Grateful Bunch

My inspiration came today from the Stampin’ Success magazine that Stampin’ Up! puts out for demonstrators.  I stamped the base cardstock in the outline of the dotted leaf image and added a small piece of “It’s My Party” Designer Series Paper to the edge.

Grateful Bunch

Christine’s Tips:

  • The Grateful Bunch stamp set bundles with the Blossom Bunch punch for 15% discount!
  • Stamp the flowers with our NEW Archival Black ink on Whisper White cardstock.  The ink is perfect to add some color with your Stampin’ Markers.  Now that Stampin’ Up! redesigned this wonderful black ink, it is of superior quality and doesn’t bleed.  You’ll be glad for that!
  • Pop each flower up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Probably the one adhesive I simply can’t do without.

Birthday Celebration Stampin’ Up!

Birthday Celebration Stampin’ Up!

Birthday Celebration

The Occasions Catalog has GOT to be one of my most favorite catalogs yet!  Yes, I say that every time Stampin’ Up! comes out with a new catalog.  But, the thing is…Stampin’ Up! just keeps on coming out with great NEW products each time.

For me, it is about time we had a balloon stamp that coordinates with a balloon punch!  In two sizes, no less.

Christine’s Tip:

  • Tilt the layers just so for added excitement.  I adore these colors which means that this card could be used for both man or woman.  Lost Lagoon, Mint Macaron, and Soft Sky round out the color choices.
  • I grabbed my black marker and doodled along the corners and added a small string to some of the balloons.  Go ahead!  Take a chance and add your own workmanship!
  • If you know me, you know that I LOVE to gather NEW fonts on my computer.  Stampin’ Up! added some new sentiments in this catalog with a whole slew of different fonts.  Yay!!!
