Just Because Flower Shop-Stampin’ Up!

Flower Shop Just Because

I think we ALL go through a creative slump at times when it comes to stamping.  Especially when family priorities take center stage.  One of the current du jour slogans going around is creative constipation.  I have had my preorder for a couple of weeks and the HORRORS, it has been sitting there feeling quite unloved.  Not even one newsletter has gone out to the folks who follow me.  Yikes!

Also, the weather has been terrific in these parts of Connecticut, so after a less than stellar winter, all I want to do is go outside and enjoy the sunshine and tend to the honeybees.

You're In My thoughtsDon’t you love it when you have an idea and it works perfectly?!  I do and this is the end result.  These Designer Series Papers are from two sets, the grid is from Moonlight, (retiring & on sale), the Stacked With Love is in the Occasions Catalog.

InsideDon’t forget to stamp the inside of your cards.  Recently, I have begun to do it for my Etsy Shop and I suddenly feel that I’ve completed the card.

If you need to purchase any supplies used on the above card, you can click on the pictures below.

But, here is what you really came for….

I have to be honest with you, when I first saw this set, it didn’t really grab my attention. But it soon grew on me as I was determined to find many different uses for it.

Do you find that this happens to you?  You purchase a stamp set and it just sits and perhaps collects dust?!

Many times, I like to use ALL elements in the set if I can.  But that is not always possible if you like a clean and simple design.

Here I used the plain circle from Geometrical and stamped Smokey Slate with Whisper White Craft Ink to create the background.

My 2 3/8″ circle punch came in handy to punch out a piece of the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper.  Think about it.  Change up the Designer Series Paper and coordinate the colors.  Keep the layout and you have a different look and feel to the card.  Let’s try it!  I will definitely keep you posted.

Have you been to my Facebook page?  I posted a sample changing up the color cardstock using the Mixed Bunch Stamp Set.

Why I Don’t Blog Everyday or Post To Social Media Hourly!

If you noticed recently, I decided to cut back on the amount of blogging and social media posting  I do during the week.  I wanted to see what life would be like if I reduced the amount that I was posting.  This happened as a result of some very long conversations I had with myself.

I said, “Self, would my life be gentler?”  Surprisingly,  the answer did not come so easily.  I love to post samples on my blog and talk about the way they were created and the products that were used.  But frankly, so do many other folks.  I know your time is valuable and I am pretty sure you do not spend all day catching up on all the different blogs out there,  so it would make sense that my stats and page views would be low.

Why I quit blogging-001

I’ve thought long and hard about  this.   Anyone who blogs knows that it can be rough!  But this is different.  This was more than just discouragement about page views and stats.

I was starting to think that maybe blogging and keeping up with my business Facebook page was like the proverbial hamster cage.   It has been about a year and a half since I started Your Stamping Teacher with the WordPress platform.   I thought things would definitely be easier.  Afterall, I had been blogging on my Blogger platform for nearly six years.

I kept thinking that if I could just function like a “well-oiled machine”, I would focus mostly on my creative passion, cardmaking.  Unfortunately, I am not a full time demonstrator who works her business during normal working hours,  has an assistant to do the day to day chores of blogging, making videos, editing videos, creating e-books, creating online classes,  stamping samples, bookkeeping, keeping up with social media (facebook, twitter, instagram), blah, blah, blah, you get the idea!   It began to  taking up more and more and more time.

Actually,  it isn’t really funny at all.  It became stressful.  The more I got into blogging and the more I tried to “grow” my blog and facebook page, and my twitter page,  the more the blogging-related tasks just grew and grew.

For me (and I am pretty sure I am not alone in this) the tasks involved in growing a blog started to take over my life. I found that growing a blog involves SO MUCH MORE than just writing.   I have become an insomniac thinking about the social media part of it.

So what is life like without blogging everyday?  I can honestly say that my stats are the same.  I don’t know why that is?!  My Facebook page has taken a bit of a hit, because and to be honest, I am enjoying my life and not feeling the need to post every hour or so about mundane things.

Can you tell that I am relaxed?!  Could it be that warmer weather is here?  Could it also be that I love to be outdoors working in my garden or tending to my honeybees?!  Probably!  I love to cook, especially for my husband.  Growing up in a family where food was important gives me great pleasure.   I am back to exercising more because I don’t want that time to slip away from me.

For the future, I will be adding classes to my summer schedule, enjoying my club nights with my local stampers, making samples from my recent Stampin’ Up! order, tending to my ever growing garden, maybe even getting chickens, going on vacation to the Jersey Shore and definitely flying out to see my kids in Oregon AND most of all, enjoying a glass of wine or two with my husband on our patio listening to all that nature provides us in our backyard.

Funny, the tagline of this post is Why I don’t Blog Everyday, but I hadn’t been doing much savoring because I was too busy blogging.  I’m so grateful that I realized what was happening because the last thing I want is to let this season of life pass me by while I’m too busy and stressed to notice.

What does this mean for this blog?

Originally I started this blog as a way to share my creative samples and let you know of all the great things in the Stampin’ Up! world, but I also realized that it is not possible to keep a full time job AND do this one AND have my Bee Girl Soap business.

In the coming months when I am off from the school year, I hope to be taking my website in a slightly different direction.  I will keep in touch with my newsletters and to those of you who read my blog, I appreciate each and every one of you.   I value your comments  and I love getting to know you in this virtual world of blogging.  That is why it was important for me to share with you why you haven’t seen much of me lately.  I am still going to blog when I feel inspired and excited to share, but the rest of the time I will be hanging out and enjoying life at home so that it doesn’t slip away.

Please let me know how you feel about this.  Don’t worry!  I am not leaving the stamping world because, you know, I just can’t stay away.

Another Thank You Photopolymer

Using the Another Thank You Photopolymer Stamp is terrific when paired with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch.

Sigh!  The Fresh Prints Designer Paper Pack is retiring.   But, WOW! can’t even begin to describe all the NEW Designer Paper in the coming 2014-2015 Annual Catalog.  And, yes, that 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon made it into the NEW Catalog as well.

Thank You BurlapYour Stamping Teacher Tips:

  • Trim the end of the Burlap Ribbon to make produce a pennant end.
  • Add lots of glue dots when adhering the Burlap Ribbon.
  • To pop up the 2 1/2″ circle stamped image, add Stampin’ Dimensionals along the edges of the Burlap ribbon, then place your stamped image over.
