Garden In Bloom – Catalog CASE

My mission is to always try and make simple cards!  I found this card on page 139 of the Annual Catalog and set about to recreate it!  In case you missed it, (CASE, Copy And Share Everything)

Of course, I don’t have the Blooms and Wishes stamp set, yet!  But I wanted to challenge myself to use something in my collection that would be similar.  I had to make a baby card and don’t have any of the baby stamps!

139The flower from Blooms and Wishes was similar to the flower from Garden in Bloom.  Don’t be afraid to check out your collection of stamps to see if you have something that would work.

I also grabbed my Banners For You stamp set as that had some leaves and dots that were perfect for the look I was trying to achieve.  The Congratulations On Your New Arrival came from the Better Together stamp set.  Check that one out because there are sentiments for many special occasions.

Where Do I Get My Inspiration From?….and A Little Blog Candy

Where do I get my inspiration from?! Today’s post addresses that burning question. Many people ask me, “How do you do it?!”  I simply answer, “By looking around at nature that catches my eye.”  I guess you could say, I look at colors from a Stampin’ Up! point of view.  The picture below was taken of a simple tissue box that I came across at work in the nurse’s office of all places!

As I found myself daydreaming about the things that I needed to check off on my To Do List…the tissue box was staring me straight in the face.

Inspiration

I looked at the leaves pondering the Summer Silhouettes leaf image and decided I must stamp something with it.  After all, the box design was essentially done for me.

Using Smoky Slate and Crumb Cake, I went about using a stamping technique called stamping off  to make a background paper.

Stamping Off Technique:  Ink up your stamp and stamp your image.  Do NOT re-ink.  Stamp again in a different spot on your cardstock.

Summer Silhouettes

Your Stamping Teacher Tips:

  • Always stamp on your Grid Paper.  After all, if you are not happy with the outcome, you haven’t wasted our precious Whisper White cardstock on a miss-stamp.
  • Keep your focal point simple so that you don’t overwhelm the overall theme.
  • Be sure to stamp off the edges of the cardstock for a finished look.

Congratulations Card Using Merry Mini Punch Pack

Last week I was asked to make a card to honor an art teacher where I work.   Adrienne became a published author after finishing her book,  The Sleepy Star.  You can read more about her book here!

When I saw the book jacket for this book, Marina Mist and So Saffron came to mind, along with the Merry Mini Punch Pack.  Since the book’s main character is a star, I thought the star punch would be perfect!

Merry Mini Stars

How I did it:

  • Marina Mist cardstock measures 1 3/4″ x 5″.
  • Punch out three stars along one long edge and turn and punch out two stars in between, being careful not to get too close to the edges.
  • Add Stampin’ Dimensionals to the underside of the Marina Mist cardstock piece.
  • Cut a piece of So Saffron cardstock at 1 5/8″ x 4 7/8″ and mount to the backside of the Marina Mist cardstock to create a popped up effect.
  • Cut Marina cardstock at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and score at 4 1/4″.
  • Cut Whisper White cardstock at 4″ x 5 1/4″.  Stamp your sentiment in lower right corner.
  • Punch a star with So Saffron and adhere over the top of the sentiment.
  • Assemble as shown in the photo.

Your Stamping Teacher Tip:  Adding a rhinestone to the center of the star adds a little bling.

Q & A:  I don’t see the Merry Mini Punch Pack in the Holiday Catalog?  How do I order it?:   The short story… it is a Carryover item and is not in either of the current catalogs.  However, I have provided the link in my ONLINE STORE for your convenience.

Now go and stamp something….
